It’s the hottest summer Cornwall has seen in 15 years. Eco-architect Olivia, who specialises in breathing life into old buildings in cutting-edge and sustainable ways, is launching her latest project, a boutique hotel. Jago Trevithick KC meets her there after a disastrous trial, seeking peace and a refuge from the underworld.

But when the couple discover the dead body of a waitress in the hotel’s swimming pool, Jago fears the dark side of his profession has followed him home. Or are his troubles more personal than he thought?
